In 1958, Dwight D. Eisenhower was the President of The United States and Frank Hutchins started washing cars at Constan Car Wash. It’s over 50 years later and the Hutchins family is still washing cars.

After working in a variety of roles with regional car wash chain Constan, Frank decided to enlist his son, Mike, and go out on their own. So in 1973 they opened their first Frank’s Car Wash on Bush River Road in Columbia and it’s still going strong. Today, Frank’s is the largest chain of car washes in SC with 15 locations currently operating.

Since opening the first location, Frank’s has been about service and customer satisfaction. As the company grew over the years, the management team needed to grow to assure customers the best possible experience. In 1993 long time family friend and Constan general manager, Harry Jones was brought in as partner and general manager of the Forest Drive and Sumter locations.  In 1985 John Cooper joined the team in Greenwood and now owns the Greenwood locations.

And just as Frank originally brought in his son, Mike’s two sons are carrying on the family tradition as well. Shawn has been with the company since 1988 and is the general manager of the full service locations. Phillip came on board in 1992 and is now the general manager of the express locations.

Frank’s constantly upgrades its equipment to include the latest, state of the art technology. Much of the equipment and supplies used are supplied by the Hutchins’ other business, Frank’s Car Wash Equipment and Supply. That company has equipped over 75 car wash facilities including the first on-site car wash at the BMW plant in the Upstate, which uses the same equipment line used in all Frank’s locations.

With family members and long time employees intimately involved in the day to day operations of the company, it is evident how deeply committed everyone is to the long-term success of the company.
